Denzel Washington is an actor, producer, and director. He started in small film roles and television roles in the 1980's before his breakout role as Tripp in Glory. In the 1990's, Washington simultaneously starred in big-budget films (such as Philadelphia) and critically acclaimed films (Malcolm X and The Hurricane), which gave him numerous nominations for best actor from the Academy Awards. He finally won with Training Day, the film he is most known for. He made his directorial debut in 2002 with Antwone Fisher, and became a producer for films such as The Book of Eli and Safe House.
