Susan Sarandon is an American actress whose career began in 1969 when she was cast in the movie Joe. She followed the role with several soap operas and continued with her film roles throughout the 1970s. In 1980, Sarandon received her first Oscar nomination for Atlantic City. In the 1990s, she received three more Academy Award nominations, and finally won the Best Actress Award in 1995 for Dead Man Walking. Sarandon has served as the narrator for many social and political documentaries and is part of the jury for the NYICFF.
