Nicole Kidman is an Australian actress who is best known for her performance in Moulin Rouge! She began her film career after dropping out of high school in 1983, but was not recognized until the 1990s. She received worldwide recognition for her roles in films such as Days of Thunder and Batman Forever. In 2001, Moulin Rouge earned Kidman her first Oscar nomination. The following year Kidman won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Hours. In 2010, Kidman received her third Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Kidman has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF since 1994 and for UNIFEM since 2006 and was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2006.
