Kate Winslet is a British actress best known for playing Rose in Titanic opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Winslet started acting in theater when she was a young girl and got a few small parts in sitcoms. Her first big role was in Heavenly Creatures, which was applauded by critics but did not give her the recognition she sought. She got a part in Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility in 1995, which garnered her a British Academy Award and an Oscar nomination. The movie that marked her transition to international star was her role in James Cameron's Titanic, giving her another Oscar nod. After the success of Titanic, she went back to independent movie roles, gathering two more Oscar nominations - one of them being an Oscar win - making her the youngest actress (at the age of 29) to receive four.
